VESTKORN FABA STARCH CONCENTRATEVestkorn faba starch concentrate is made from dry milling and classification of faba beans. It is neutral in terms flavour, aroma and colour. Vestkorn faba starch concentrate is made without the use of any processing aids or chemical compounds. Vestkorn faba starch is an effective binder that contains 19% protein, and so adds significantly more protein when formulated in a product than if using cereals or compared with pea, potato or sweet potato starches. The starch content is 65% on a dry matter basis.
Vestkorn faba starch has been less studied for pet foods than pea starch but is expected to have similar properties, such as being effective for texturization of products during extrusion cooking. The dry milling preserves the nutritional values better than other methods and the fine milling process increases the nutritional availability. Fababean starch is high in amylose (about 33%) compared with wheat (about 25%), potato starch (about 20%) and sweet potato starch (variable but average about 20%). Amylose has better water binding and thickening properties than the other main starch component – amylopectin.
